FULL DESCRIPTION

The tour will begin at Basilica of St. Jhon Lateran. The Basilica of San Jhon was built in the 4th century AD. in an area then known as Horti Laterani, ancient possessions of the Laterani family which had been confiscated during Nero’s empire. Returned to the Laterans by Septimius Severus, the land and the palace that stood there finally came to the emperor Constantine when he married Fausta, daughter of the ex-emperor Maximian, in 307. The tour will continue with the Basilica of St. Cross and after in the Basilica of Sancta Sanctorum and Santa Stair. It was in 326 with the Empress St. Helena climbed several times by Jesus on the day of his death sentence transported to Rome from Pilate’s praetorium in Jerusalem. For this reason it was called Scala Sancta.
